This series comprises records of assorted subject matter retained by the Rev. Fredrik A. Schiotz, president of The American Lutheran Church from 1960-1970. Records are from 1958-1976 with the bulk dating from 1960-1970. Although the bulk of the records comprises handwritten and typewritten business correspondence, other record types include news articles, news releases, minutes, agenda, exhibits, publications, topical papers, reports, and promotional material. Subject matter for these records includes campus ministry, church-state relations, management issues at Lutheran Brotherhood, inter-church relations, global missions, health care, and greater inclusivity in church life for persons of color. As usual, these records demonstrate the tremendous efforts Pastor Schiotz made to answer all correspondence directed towards him. Records of note include one box of correspondence and news clippings pertaining to struggles in the early 1960s between the management of Lutheran Brotherhood and policyholders who wished for a change in leadership. Records are arranged according to the following subseries: general subject, committee on inter-church relations, long range study committee, Lutheran Brotherhood, national crisis, and national Lutheran campus ministry.
